Crescent School review by Queen's University student.
Crescent has one of the strongest all-around academic programs in Canada. It attracts a diverse collection of many of the strongest teachers in the Toronto area, and they are renowned for their commitment to the students both inside and outside the classroom. The Advanced Placement program is hugely valuable in terms of gaining a leg up before going to university. In my case, it allowed me to complete two degrees in just 4 years without needing to take a heavy course load. For others, it can either lighten the load at university or just simply give them a head-start on university level course material. The teaching philosophy varies by department, but it is consistently of high quality. The school might do well to become more on the leading edge of innovative teaching practices, but the level of preparation for university academics is still very strong. Extra help is widely available.

They have contacts at most of the major universities and feel perfectly comfortable picking up the phone and advocating for a student to get accepted somewhere they feel is a good fit for that student. For the interview, dress conservatively. Try to be very clean and put together. Also, I was a tour guide for two years and at the end of every tour, we were asked to evaluate the candidate so if you think the tour is not apart of the process, you are very wrong. Ask questions and be interested. Also, tip for the parents: the kids speak on the tour. Do not ask their questions for them...
Most younger siblings have an easy time in the admissions process. I can only think of one case of a younger sibling not being admitted. About half of the students who entered with me had come from public schools. The remainder came from private K-6 schools, or had transferred from other New York private schools The Elizabeth Morrow School and St. Bernard were two of the larger feeder schools...
The school is known for its great quality of school life and generally upbeat atmosphere. Students look to contribute and get involved in any way they can. Their is a great pastoral support system through programs like the House system, and the Mentor program, which provide opportunities for friendships to develop between students of different ages. I still have an amazing number of strong friendships with students who were a couple of years older or a couple of years younger than me during our time at Crescent. The school takes a fairly liberal approach to discipline....
