King Edward's School Birmingham review by Imperial College student.
Academic quality is high - especially of the core curricular subjects - maths, languages and science. Average work load is roughly 2 hours per night, with various coursworks and other projects in the term. There is a strong emphasis on academic excellence - with high calibre Oxbridge teachers. With specialities in science - a large cohort of the year group is directed toward science careers. For bright pupils teachers will push them further- with Advanced classes and streaming in some cases. In comparison to other schools, KES stands out due to its outstanding faculty, opportunities to excel, relatively small class size and good working environment. School facilities are excellent - digital language laboratories, science laboraties, computer rooms etc.

Also, I was a tour guide for two years and at the end of every tour, we were asked to evaluate the candidate so if you think the tour is not apart of the process, you are very wrong. Ask questions and be interested. Also, tip for the parents: the kids speak on the tour. Do not ask their questions for them...
Most younger siblings have an easy time in the admissions process. I can only think of one case of a younger sibling not being admitted. About half of the students who entered with me had come from public schools. The remainder came from private K-6 schools, or had transferred from other New York private schools The Elizabeth Morrow School and St. Bernard were two of the larger feeder schools...
KES is a day time school. It is set in leafy Edgbaston - with a backdrop of the Birmingham University. The quality of life is excellent - with a great ethos to work hard and play hard. Dining facilities are good with both a large dining hall and snack shop. The neighbourhood is extremely safe - in one Birmingham's richest areas. There are frequent social events and times for students to enjoy themselves - whether it be friday afternoon activities or lunch time breaks playing football in the play ground. In sixth form - the ethos does change as students prepare for....
