Milton Academy review by Wellesley College student.
Milton Academy is academically known for its humanities, and has every right to be. Every teacher I have had has been extremely knowledgeable, helpful, and most importantly, passionate about their subject. Every class is conducted around a harkness table which really pushes for great discussion. The teacher always sits with the class around the teacher, just as any participant of the discussion. The students are certainly competitive, however, I felt that I was competing more with myself than with my peers. Everyone encourages you to find your passion and really pushes you to succeed in your own field. Obviously, there are exceptions. Milton has an intense environment and at times, can be a little overbearing. The homework assignments, year by year, became more college-like. I clearly remember at the beginning of my first semester at Wellesley, some of my peers were complaining about not knowing how to manage so much reading and writing for unclear due dates. College is less about turning in homework everyday but more about understanding the material on your own and being able to execute the information on tests. Milton was everything college has been for me so far. The biggest class I had at Milton was 16 students. Most of the faculty live on campus and so I often went to their houses in the evenings to go over material that I didn't quite understand. Work load is definitely very heavy, especially since everyone on campus is extremely involved in other extracurriculars. Milton only has one set of exams (after the 1st semester) because they are more enthusiastic about the learning process. They believe that the exams at the end of the semester don't really leave room for students to learn from their mistakes on their exams and so we only have projects at the end.

They have contacts at most of the major universities and feel perfectly comfortable picking up the phone and advocating for a student to get accepted somewhere they feel is a good fit for that student. However, these counselors are certainly not magic bullets. They cannot guarantee that a student will get into an Ivy League university...
For those wishing to move on to Oxford or Cambridge, the provision is second-to-none. In the months running up to application and interview, every subject faculty offers classes (often run by former Oxbridge tutors) exploring further areas of their subject as well as offering advice on personal statements, interview technique and more...

For the interview, dress conservatively. Try to be very clean and put together. Also, I was a tour guide for two years and at the end of every tour, we were asked to evaluate the candidate so if you think the tour is not apart of the process, you are very wrong. Ask questions and be interested. Also, tip for the parents: the kids speak on the tour. Do not ask their questions for them...
Most younger siblings have an easy time in the admissions process. I can only think of one case of a younger sibling not being admitted. About half of the students who entered with me had come from public schools. The remainder came from private K-6 schools, or had transferred from other New York private schools The Elizabeth Morrow School and St. Bernard were two of the larger feeder schools...
Milton is nearly 200 years old and so most of the buildings are pretty dated. However, there is something poignant about taking classes in buildings where people like T.S. Eliot took classes. There are two main cafeterias that are very well run with all kinds of food catered to all needs. There is a campus safety department right on campus. They even offer escort rides to dorms if a student is alone and is walking back late at night. Milton is one of the most diverse prep schools in the country. I had a....
