Regis High School review by Georgetown University student.
Regis High School (New York City) is a vibrant school located in the heart of one of the most vibrant cities in the world. The academic program is engaging and engaged in the community around it. Students and faculty work together in a way that is not limited to the classroom, but expands into unstructured and free time and for hours after school each day. The teachers of Regis High School are experts in their fields; even more importantly, they are passionate about what they teach and anxious that their students love to learn. The academic program is equally strong across disciplines, though lacking perhaps in fine arts and nonWestern history. The student body is outwardly friendly and collaborative, but there are admittedly strong undercurrents of competiveness, and many students are success, grade, and career driven. As a student at a first tier university, I have never felt underprepared to be here. I often, in fact, feel during some semesters as if the work load at Regis were more difficult and certainly more time consuming. The faculty taught us important research skills, developed our capacity to engage what was learned in the classroom with issues in our community, our nation, and our world, and encouraged a passion for learning for the sake of learning as well.

They have contacts at most of the major universities and feel perfectly comfortable picking up the phone and advocating for a student to get accepted somewhere they feel is a good fit for that student. However, these counselors are certainly not magic bullets. They cannot guarantee that a student will get into an Ivy League university...
For those wishing to move on to Oxford or Cambridge, the provision is second-to-none. For the interview, dress conservatively. Try to be very clean and put together. Also, I was a tour guide for two years and at the end of every tour, we were asked to evaluate the candidate so if you think the tour is not apart of the process, you are very wrong. Ask questions and be interested. Also, tip for the parents: the kids speak on the tour. Do not ask their questions for them...
Most younger siblings have an easy time in the admissions process. I can only think of one case of a younger sibling not being admitted. About half of the students who entered with me had come from public schools. The remainder came from private K-6 schools, or had transferred from other New York private schools The Elizabeth Morrow School and St. Bernard were two of the larger feeder schools...
My personal reflection on quality of life at Regis is that it was not lacking at all. Besides a satisfactory dining service, the school itself is located in the heart of a fantastic city, in a beautiful, expensive, and safe neighborhood, filled with culinary opportunity, and upperclassmen are allowed to seek meals outside during the lunch period. As far as socializing, the school's location allows it to have a plethora of so-called "sister" schools, who share dances, social events, and who are part of the Regis Repertory, the school's theatre program, which brings females into the school every afternoon. The facilities themselves....
