Shrewsbury School review by University of Oxford student.
Shrewbury School was separated into houses, like colleges, although the main competitiveness between them was sport-based. Academically the average class size was about 22 up to age 16, and then down to as low as 8-10 in the 6th form. On average work load was about 2-3hrs per evening, although more when it came to projects etc. Not completely exam based until final term. Teachers caused me personally to enthuse over my subjects and succeed into getting into university.

They have contacts at most of the major universities and feel perfectly comfortable picking up the phone and advocating for a student to get accepted somewhere they feel is a good fit for that student. Ask questions and be interested. Also, tip for the parents: the kids speak on the tour. Do not ask their questions for them...
Most younger siblings have an easy time in the admissions process. I can only think of one case of a younger sibling not being admitted. About half of the students who entered with me had come from public schools. The remainder came from private K-6 schools, or had transferred from other New York private schools The Elizabeth Morrow School and St. Bernard were two of the larger feeder schools...
Quality of Life at Shrewsbury was quite high. Food was in general good - Breakfast was fantastic and Lunch ok; supper was very nice but not particularly healthy, although I am told this has changed since I left. Housing was fine, room to myself in final year, shared with one or two friends in penultimate, and dorms of 4-6 in first three years. The school has its own campus with night patrol, so is relatively safe. Social events were held for the younger years once every few weeks with nearby girls schools. In the 6th form there was a school....
