St. Michael's College School review by University of Toronto student.
Doce me Bonatatem, et disciplinam, et scientiam is my school's motto. My school only lives up to 2 of the three parts of it's own motto (discipline and knowledge). Teaching styles would differ based on the teacher, as St. Michael's College school as a collective does not follow a particular teaching pedagogy. So there was a mix of lecture based learning, and discussions. The course load was definitely more than average, however the diversity of courses that you can select to take was lacking. In university you have countless people who are lost, trying to find their way through their programs. With a lack of course diversity, how can your child grow into a well rounded person? Class sizes are about 25:1, teachers were usually available to students, and several opportunities for extra help. Although science and math is emphasized by the school, graduates end up excelling english and history. This proves to be useful as essay writing is the norm in university. The school should definitely do without religious education. It oddly provides information that proves useful in university, because we live in a western society.

For the interview, dress conservatively. Try to be very clean and put together. Also, I was a tour guide for two years and at the end of every tour, we were asked to evaluate the candidate so if you think the tour is not apart of the process, you are very wrong. Ask questions and be interested. Also, tip for the parents: the kids speak on the tour. Do not ask their questions for them...
Most younger siblings have an easy time in the admissions process. I can only think of one case of a younger sibling not being admitted. About half of the students who entered with me had come from public schools. The remainder came from private K-6 schools, or had transferred from other New York private schools The Elizabeth Morrow School and St. Bernard were two of the larger feeder schools...
This was a highly conservative environment. Despite the efforts of the teachers, there was a power structure in place that favoured the athletic. Even some teachers would give breaks to these students. However, St. Mike's does have a strong zero tolerance policy. There is plenty of bullying. No pastoral support system. A strong alumni network. This school is probably the most useful after graduation....
